Gathering Music:                                 Holy, Holy, Holy  P. 64. UMH

Holy, holy, holy
Lord, God Almighty
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee

Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons blessed Trinity

Holy, holy, holy

All the saints adore thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cheribum and seraphim falling down before thee,

Which wert, and art, and ever more shall be.

Holy, holy, holy
Though the darkness hide Thee
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see

Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity

Holy, holy, holy
Lord, God Almighty
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons blessed Trinity

Welcome:                                                                  Rev. Ray Dowdy

Opening Prayer:

Do you pray? What is prayer? Prayer doesn’t just happen when we put our hands together and focus our attention on God. Thinking positive thoughts and wishing well for others is prayer. When you hug a friend, that’s a prayer. When you cook something to nourish your family and friends, that’s a prayer. When you send off those you care about and say “drive safely,” that’s a prayer. When you are helping those in need by giving of your resources and time you are praying. When you forgive a long held grudge you are praying. Prayer is a nudge, a feeling, a thought. It is the voice of love, the foundation of friendship, the positive force of relationships. Prayer is the knowledge of God with us. Do you pray? Of course you do. Amen.

*Hymn of Praise:                                            To God be the Glory – UMH 98

To God be the glory great things He has done!

So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,

And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord

Let the earth hear His voice

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord

Let the people rejoice

Come to the Father

Through Jesus the Son

Give Him the glory

Great things He has done

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,

To every believer the promise of God;

The vilest offender who truly believes,

That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Refrain:

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;

But purer, and higher, and greater will be

Our wonder, our worship, when Jesus we see.

Refrain:

A Story With Grandma Carolyn:

A Time of Prayer,

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

Lesson:                                               Wisdom of Solomon 6:17-20

6:17 The beginning of wisdom is the most sincere desire for instruction, and concern for instruction is love of her, and love of her is the keeping of her laws, and giving heed to her laws is assurance of immortality, and immortality brings one near to God; so the desire for wisdom leads to a kingdom.

*Gospel Lesson:                                                    Matthew 25:1-13

25:1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a shout, 'Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps.

25:8 The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise replied, 'No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut.

25:11 Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.'

But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Sermon:                          “I Can Always Buy More”.    Rev. Ray Dowdy

Response:                            “God be With You ‘till We Meet Again” P. 672 UMH[i]

1. God be with you till we meet again;

By his counsels guide, uphold you;

With his sheep securely fold you.

God be with you till we meet again.

[Chorus]

Till we meet, till we meet,

Till we meet at Jesus’ feet,

Till we meet, till we meet,

God be with you till we meet again.

4. God be with you till we meet again;

Keep love’s banner floating o’er you;

Smite death’s threat’ning wave before you.

God be with you till we meet again.
